Settlement Workers in Schools (SWIS)

The Settlement Worker in Schools (SWIS) program is a free, school based outreach program aimed at helping eligible newcomer students and their families in their settlement and integration into the school and community.

Our SWIS team provides services to all categories of immigrant including government-sponsored refugees, privately-sponsored refugees, family sponsored immigrants, economic immigrants, and Canadian citizens who are children of immigrants.

We create a bridge between school, home, and community.

  •  We provide orientation and referrals to essential resources and organizations in the community
  • We give information for successful transition to the Canadian school setting, local schools and activities
  • We provide practical guidance and support as well as immediate intervention in crisis situations
  • We advocate for newcomer students and their families in the school and community.
  • We provide personal outreach to newly arrived families to help enhance the settlement process.
